Used Canon EOS 1DS Mark III

Overview
The launch of the Canon EOS 1DS Mark III in August 2007 saw a milestone in digital SLR development with the resolution surpassing the 20 megapixel barrier. The camera delivers resolution within touching distance of medium format with a 21.1 million pixel full-frame (36 x 24mm) CMOS sensor.

The Mark III’s impressive technical developments enable it to process a massive 185mb of data every second when shooting at 5 frames per second. The camera offers the very latest incarnation of Canon’s staggeringly good 35mm full frame CMOS sensor which delivers an uncompressed 100mb 16-bit TIFF file, setting yet another benchmark for the likes of Nikon and Sony to aim for.
Canon’s fantastic Dual DIGIC III processors produce outstanding colour reproduction and sharpness whilst driving the continuous 5 fps continuous shooting facility, allowing for even the most demanding sports and wildlife photographer.

The Canon EOS 1DS Mark III produces files that exceed all resolution standards required of leading picture agencies and stock libraries. For those into wildlife photography there is quite simply no better SLR for the job, its advanced auto focusing system incorporates 19 high sensitivity cross-type sensors spread across the AF area plus a further 26 AF assist points that help to improve the accuracy of its focus tracking system.

Reviews
Now for most of us mere Mortals ownership of this staggeringly good camera is a pipedream considering its £5k plus price tag. However it is undoubtedly the most accomplished digital SLR for wildlife photography due not only to its impressive resolution statistics but also to Canon’s continual development in auto focus technology combined with its Dual DIGIC processor which develops astonishing colour depth and metering.

Speaking for myself, I have for my past two digital SLR purchases relied upon second hand Canon SLR bodies. If you purchase from an official Canon specialist such as Walters Photo Video you will pick a Canon EOS 1DS Mark III for a fraction of its new price in mint condition, boxed and guaranteed. The EOS 1DS MK III was sold originally with 2 year warranties from Canon themselves, therefore often you will pick them up second hand with at least a year still left on them.
