New additions
Congratulations to our Kenya representative Stephen Munyoki and his wife Agnes who in March gave birth to a baby girl. She is named Pauline after Pauline Martin (wife of AAF Trustee Colin). Mother and baby are fine and join Esther, Philip, Morris and Hellen.

Gai Clinic
In August 2002, Dr. James Buckle of South Petherton, and Rosie Crane a medical student from Broadwindsor, spent three weeks in Kenya working at Gai clinic. Since December, they have both been fundraising to help the clinic, and are channelling their efforts through restricted funds within AAF. Gai is a mission hospital which relies on charitable funding to continue it’s work, and Dr. Buckle’s “Gai Clinic Fund” has so far this year provided nearly £4,000 worth of medicines and equipment. At present, he is organising the installation of a new solar powered lighting system for the clinic.

Rosie Crane, now studying at Kings College Cambridge, has encouraged a great number of fellow students to support her “Harambee” fund by monthly donations. The “Harambee fund is now financing the AAF health card scheme to provide subsidised health care for at present 100 poor families. Rosie is visiting Gai again this August, and will be assessing how she can further help Gai clinic, and the people of the area.

Gai clinic and the Health care scheme are both very important to the people of the Mivukoni Location and AAF is very pleased at the initiative and enthusiasm shown by both Rosie, and James.

Bakery Business
One Akamba man is helping himself and the surrounding community. He trained for and set up his own bakery business in Twimyua, designing and building his own ovens and now he supplies many shops in whole Mivukoni Location. He also employs five young people to bake and deliver the bread and 15 women to gather firewood for the ovens. On average he bakes 300-400 loaves every night, and it is good bread...
