A healing report
After our trip in October 2002 we reported about a baby girl who was brought to us badly scalded on her arm from boiling water which had tipped on to her.

She had no treatment for at least four days, the burn was infected and the smell was terrible

We immediately took her for treatment at Kyuso Clinic and paid for her care. We were told if the infection had been left much longer, gangrene could have set in, which would have resulted in amputation .

In July 2003, Her mother again brought little Mwikali to see us, this time out of gratitude, happily showing us a healthy arm with new skin tissue. To our untrained eyes the healing was so good that scarring may only be slight. The mother was very poor and had no real knowledge of any First Aid or even of proper hygiene. There were lessons here which we felt we could think about for a future project.

A testing time for Timothy
Timothy Mwendwa Mutooni was the first boy to be sponsored by AAF. We have been supporting him through three of his four years at Tseikuru Secondary School. He has been working well at school in spite of eyesight problems, and this year completed his course. Unfortunately he marginally failed to get the required grading to enable him to be accepted by Nairobi University, and has been advised by his tutors, to retake his final year, hoping to raise his marks to the required level. Denis discussed his situation at length and agreed that Timothy would find funding himself for the 12 month course at Kyuso Secondary School, to re-affirm his personal commitment. If then his final exam marks are high enough to be accepted by Nairobi University, we have promised that AAF will support him through university, aiming at a degree in Engineering.

Timothy, now aged 20, realizes that it will be hard work for one year, but because of AAF’s promise, the rewards will be worthwhile.
