AAF Healthcare is given in many ways:-
  • We supply five existing clinics with medicines, equipment and other supplies
  • We carry out maintenance work at the existing clinics.
  • We build new health facilities.We operate a AAF subsidised health card scheme for the poor.
  • We pay for essential health treatment for the extremely poor and needy.
  • We hope soon to start training an AAF Health visitor for the area.

Among the five clinics in the area, the main problem experienced is the shortage of medicines, and equipment. On every mission by AAF trustees, we purchase medicines from pharmaceutical suppliers in Nairobi which are then given to the clinics.

  

 
In 2002 Dr. James Buckle, a Somerset G.P. spent three weeks working at Gai Clinic. Since his return, he has been fundraising to provide equipment and medicines to improve the healthcare at Gai. This was originally built as a mission hospital, but has suffered from lack of funding, and patient debts caused by the poverty of the area. Dr. Buckles fund is a designated fund within AAF, and is providing much needed medical supplies, together with beds and clinical equipment. In 2003 the fund provided a solar powered electric lighting system throughout the complex which greatly improved the facility.

On one of our trips, we came across this woman who had suffered a miscarriage, and lost much blood, she lost consciousness shortly after this photo was taken. Our car became an ambulance to get her to Gai Clinic (40kms.) where she received emergency plasma transfusion from supplies previously given to Gai by AAF. On the right is same woman 4 days later with Nurse John of Gai. She has recovered, and now happily going home.
